SubSaver ®

Laboratory tests show that 40kA (kiloamp) MOV’s can sometimes take 50 to 60 kA without failing. Impulses of this size occur less than 1% of the time in direct lightning strikes.

The 4-mode connection in SubSaver is a very efficient and economical use of MOV’s.

MOV’s can be rated at half the phase-to-phase voltage.

Only 4 MOV’s are needed.

This makes SubSaver® smaller and easier to mount.

SubSaver® is recommended for low horsepower (<100) and low cost ESP’s.

SubSaver® comes with AC voltage ratings of 1500, 2500 and 3600.

Heavy Duty Basic (HDB)

6-mode connection as illustrated.

All MOV’s are rated for full phase-to-phase voltage.

A minimum of 6 MOV’s is required, three phase-to-phase and three phase-to-ground.

Because more MOV’s are used HDB can handle more energy.

Protection is not lost should a single MOV fail open, although the limiting voltage is doubled.

HDB is highly recommended for expensive ESP units rated over 100 HP.
